Operation Crossbow (1965)

£0.00

Country: GB/IT
Technical: col/scope 116m
Director: Michael Anderson
Cast: George Peppard, Tom Courtenay, Jeremy Kemp, Richard Johnson, Anthony Quayle, John Mills, Sophia Loren, Trevor Howard, Lilli Palmer

Synopsis:

Allied agents attempt to penetrate the Germans' rocket research facility during WW2.

Review:

Undistinguished Sixties war heroics along Alistair MacLean lines, with a cast to match. Despite Signor Ponti's decent production values it rarely sets the pulse racing, with the characters spending a great deal of time waiting for something to happen. The body count dutifully mounts, but is hard to reconcile with the Thunderbirds miniatures and destruction of several terraces in the East End. Unlike the German-accented English of its generic brethren, the dialogue is linguistically realistic resulting in large sections of the movie having subtitles.
