Apparently the true story of the family who inherited its fortune from the invention of Bakelite, this slow boiling drama treats us to sodomy, promiscuity, incest and matricide, before revealing that its sensitive hero is criminally insane. At no time are we given much insight into the inner life of the characters, who just come across as idle and spoilt, but Julianne Moore carries all before her and Dillane is impressive.
