Country: GB
Technical: bw 86m
Director: Brian Desmond Hurst
Cast: Alastair Sim, Mervyn Johns, Kathleen Harrison, Michael Hordern, Jack Warner, Hermione Baddeley, George Cole

Synopsis:

A London businessman who has spent his life acquiring wealth he does not know what to do with, neglects his extended family and ruthlessly exploits his clerk. As he prepares to ignore yet another yuletide, he is visited by the ghost of his late partner and three Christmas spirits, in an attempt to convince him to mend his miserly ways.

Review:

The classic British adaptation of Dickens's A Christmas Carol is a who's who of national acting talent, and the atmosphere and special effects are handled just right. Sim was in many ways the ideal Scrooge, with his dour, baleful eyes and Caledonian accent and, even if the performance style is decidedly theatrical at times, that is entirely in keeping with an elevated allegorical script.
