Shrek (2001)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: Technicolor 90m
Director: Andrew Adamson, Vicky Jenson
Cast: Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, John Lithgow, Vincent Cassel

Synopsis:

An ogre accepts a challenge to liberate a princess from a dragon, in order to secure the freedom of his swamp from the multitude of fairytale characters a wicked despot has exiled there.

Review:

A useful hook for a number of riffs on children's story archetypes, even taking in Robin Hood, Men in Tights, it seems. Immensely amusing, though rather more so for adults, one suspects. The animation set new standards for computer generated imagery, using real actors to map the expressions of the characters, and two sequels followed.
