Country: US
Technical: FotoKem 127m
Director: Alexander Payne
Cast: Tony Giamatti, Thomas Haden Church, Virginia Madsen, Sandra Oh

Synopsis:

A forty-something divorcé English teacher and wine connoisseur takes his college roommate out for a week's tasting and golf among California's vineyards as a treat before his wedding, but before long it becomes apparent that all this sometime soap star has in mind is getting himself and his celibate buddy laid.

Review:

That rarity: a studio film that not only deals with serious issues but is aimed at a much neglected demographic group. At the same time it has a lightness of touch that combines irony and slapstick with the jaundiced view of the world familiar from Payne's earlier films. The cast is outstanding and it is basically the sort of film it will be good to cosy up to on DVD in years to come, with its ultimately affirmative message about starting over.
