Signs (2002)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: DuArt 106m
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Cast: Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin

Synopsis:

A Pennsylvania farmer and former clergyman who lost his faith when his wife died in a freak accident is forced to confront the possibility that he might lose everything when he and his family come face to face with invading aliens.

Review:

Initially reminiscent of Close Encounters, Field of Dreams and Independence Day in varying measures this gets the Shyamalan feel when it starts toying with the titular theme of whether a chance event is indeed such or a sign from God. Naturally the freakier the event then the harder it is to believe it is a coincidence, which is where the aliens come in. Needless to say there are the brushes with the other side we have come to expect from this director, who takes a small role as the driver of the killer car, and the reverend does indeed get his dog collar out again before the closing credits roll. One or two nicely orchestrated heart-stopping moments aside, this is crashingly familiar stuff by now.
