Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 122m
Director: David O. Russell
Cast: Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Saunders, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker
Synopsis:
A man who has been in state care for beating up his wife's lover is released into the custody of his parents but continues to nurture the delusion, based on his 'silver linings' positive thinking theory, that he can win back his partner in spite of a restraining order. Then he meets his friend's sister-in-law, who has had similar emotional issues followed by medication. She promises to act as go-between in return for his taking part with her in a dance competition.
Review:
As in I Heart Huckabees there is much that is agreeably zany yet everyday about this suburban romantic comedy - for want of another handle. The characters are clearly ordinary people who know and love each other, and there is little malice around, just people trying to make a go of their lives. What makes the central pairing so affecting is the beautiful chance of their meeting, and the way they complement and repair one another in spite of some cringe-making faux pas along the way.
