Singin' in the Rain (1952)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: Technicolor 102m
Director: Stanley Donen, Gene Kelly
Cast: Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Debbie Reynolds

Synopsis:

A silent movie romantic teaming hits the skids with the coming of sound on account of the Brooklyn twang of the leading lady; a young amateur actress provides the voice to save their latest film.

Review:

One of the most affectionately remembered of the 1950s musicals, partly because it looks back so affectionately - and informatively for many people - at an earlier period in Hollywood history. It is nothing more than a series of revue-like sketches really, tied around a 'putting on a film' plot, and some of the acting is correspondingly broad in the extreme. However, the energy of the central trio and the finesse of Donen and Kelly's choreography sets the screen alight with every production number, and the script is pretty smart.
