Sleeper (1973)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 88m
Director: Woody Allen
Cast: Woody Allen, Diane Keaton

Synopsis:

Woody wakes from suspension in the year 2073 and finds all but a Volkswagen beetle uncannily changed.

Review:

Above-average Allen vehicle of the 'early, funny period', with great lines and sight gags, notably a meal eaten to Beethoven's Tempest sonata, and the use of a stainless steel ball as a high. As often the film is introduced, and at times accompanied (in the Keatonish 'silent' sequences) by an excellent jazz score written by the director. There's an explicit homage to Groucho Marx when Woody asks, 'But can he do this?' while executing a shoddy pirouette, plus Streetcar named Desire imitations from the stars.
