Sleepy Hollow (1999)

£0.00

Country: US/GER
Technical: DeLuxe 105m
Director: Tim Burton
Cast: Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Miranda Richardson, Michael Gambon, Jeffrey Jones, Richard Griffiths, Michael Gough, Christopher Walken, Christopher Lee

Synopsis:

At the turn of the nineteenth century, New York, a police constable with modern notions about detection based on reason has his principles put sorely to the test when he is packed off upstate to solve the mystery of the Headless Horseman.

Review:

Another slice of American gothic from the director, with the most brilliantly realized decapitations yet committed to film one of its major selling points. There is an array of acting talent, much of it wasted, and homages to films like Frankenstein for those entertained by that kind of thing. It's all a bit short on imagination, as if the wealth of effects and gross-out factor had somehow distracted the creator of such as Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, but there are incidental pleasures and no one quite has the sweep and verve of Burton at full gallop.
