£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col/2.35:1 120m
Director: Danny Boyle
Cast: Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, Anil Kapoor

Synopsis:

A slum boy and chai wallah at a call centre answers correctly all the questions he is posed on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and is interrogated for fraud by the police. Gradually we learn of the extraordinary circumstances that led to his having the right answers.

Review:

An Oscar-winning film that pushed all the right buttons at a time of global financial meltdown: it made people believe in the triumph of the indomitable human spirit, at least for an hour and a half. It is a splendid technical achievement, capturing the look of Mumbai through a succession of periods and using mobile digital technology to galvanising effect. The young actors are remarkable and the onion-like structure of the screenplay works like a charm.
