Solaris (2002)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 99m
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Cast: George Clooney, Natascha McElhone, Viola Davis, Jeremy Davies
Synopsis:
A bereaved astronaut is asked to troubleshoot a distant mission which is refusing to return to base, and when he arrives discovers that the orbited planet has provided each of the crew with a personal companion. His is to be his dead wife.
Review:
Palimpsest of Tarkovsky's science fiction classic, elegantly shot and handsomely produced as one would expect from this stable. It moves at a fair old lick compared with the original and sacrifices some of the mystery, though none of the poignancy, of the hero's predicament.
