Country: GB
Technical: col 111m
Director: Mike Newell
Cast: Sylvia Chang, Danny An-Ning, Jodi Long

Synopsis:

A Chinese couple of newlyweds emigrates from Hong Kong to London, and their attempts to set up a restaurant business of their own is endangered by the husband's involvement with one of two warring Triad groups in order to pay off his father's gambling debts.

Review:

An eye-opening view of a section of our society which will no doubt increase as 1997 approaches. Essentially hardworking, the Chinese are represented as the products of a clash between old codes and morals and a giving-in to corrupt western ways. The acting is outstanding, the grim storyline not without humour.
