South of St. Louis (1948)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 88m
Director: Ray Enright
Cast: Joel McCrea, Zachary Scott, Victor Jory, Alexis Smith, Dorothy Malone

Synopsis:

Three friends ride together after the Civil War, pursuing the Union guerrilla leader who burnt down their ranch, but bitterness threatens to get the better of one of them.

Review:

Lavishly produced little B-Western from United States Pictures, surely worthy of some recognition. There is a nice effect caused by the bells the three companions wear on their spurs, and which symbolize their solidarity, and in spite of its routine trappings the film has some surprises in store: the good guy (Scott) who turns rotten redeems himself at the last minute, and Smith does end up with McCrea (watch the movie if you wonder why that is surprising!)
