Splash (1984)

Country: US
Technical: col 110m
Director: Ron Howard
Cast: Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah, Eugene Levy

Synopsis:

A New Yorker meets and falls in love with a mermaid who saved his life when he was a kid.

Review:

Old-fashioned 'fish out of water' romantic comedy, quite winning really, incorporating Spielbergian concerns over our destructive curiosity about the inner workings of the 'alien' lifeform. It's about as easy to take in a contemporary NY context as the amnesia/identity changes of Desperately Seeking Susan, but it was a film you could take the family to without boring the adults, and that, in the 80s, was about as common as finding a mermaid on the beach.
