Spotlight (2015)

£0.00

Country: US/CAN
Technical: col 128m
Director: Tom McCarthy
Cast: Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery, Stanley Tucci

Synopsis:

The story of the investigation by a special team of reporters at the Boston Globe into child abuse among Catholic priests in the city, and the exposure of systematic out-of-court settlement and transfer of offending priests by the church authorities.

Review:

In the tradition of All the President's Men, this is a taut newsroom procedural with top rank underplaying by a splendid cast of favourites, not a few of whom have been known to chew scenery in less careful directorial hands. The tone is well judged throughout, stunned but rueful; this is not so much a film to carry off the big awards as to make Hollywood feel better for getting it made. Which is to say that it is without 'big scenes' even as it feels worthy and true.
