Stagecoach (1966)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 114m
Director: Gordon Douglas
Cast: Ann-Margret, Alex Cord, Bing Crosby, Red Buttons, Stefanie Powers, Robert Cummings

Synopsis:

A motley group of characters board the stage in Lordsburg, bound for Cheyenne. They include an alcoholic medic, an embezzling banker, a liquor salesman and a prostitute, all wanting to get out and not look back, and little aware that they are to connect en route with the noted gunman, the Ringo Kid. They will need to set aside their prejudices if they are to confront the dangers that lie ahead.

Review:

A pretty senseless, and pretty serviceable, remake of Ford's classic, replacing the original cast with suitable avatars and adding colour and wide screen, but with none of that film's thrill of something new taking place. It is interesting how the action remains much less cynical than that of Maupassant's original, in spite of the absence of the Production Code: courage and unity prove triumphant still. So American!
