Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)
Country: US
Technical: col/2.39:1 152m
Director: Rian Johnson
Cast: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver
Synopsis:
As Rey struggles to persuade Luke to rejoin the struggle against the First Order, and the evil Snoke and Kylo Ren close in on the remnants of the Rebel fleet, a strange telepathic complicity develops between Ren and Rey.
Review:
This essentially felicitous eighth episode in the unending saga boasts unity of action if nothing else, but reposes on an essential narrative inconsistency which makes a mockery of the unity of time. The idea that the First Order's pursuit and ultimate cornering of the Rebels could last as long as Rey's inexorably painful sojourn on the Skywalker's rocky outcrop is almost as absurd as the denial of cosmic physics that takes Leia Organa back to her vessel and saves the occupants of the disintegrating star cruiser from being sucked into space. Or is this churlish of me? Some great acting from Driver.
