Suddenly Last Summer (1959)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: bw 114m
Director: Joseph L. Mankiewicz
Cast: Katharine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift

Synopsis:

An overwrought young woman is induced to exorcise her memory of a traumatic experience where she witnessed the death of her gay poet brother.

Review:

Tennessee Williams's most over the top piece of work has an ideal cast but draws only mediocre performances from them. It is a first class production and sensitively directed but somehow lacks the fire of the playwright's best filmed work, at least until its final strident monologue of recollection by Taylor, nightmarishly realised by Mankiewicz.
