The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 142m
Director: Frank Darabont
Cast: Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, Bob Gunton

Synopsis:

A banker, wrongly imprisoned for murdering his wife, survives by doing the warden's accounts; meanwhile he meticulously prepares his escape.

Review:

Careful, efficient prison movie with sentimental leanings, a masterly piece of storytelling from a Stephen King novella, which slavishly follows every turn of the book so that when justice finally comes it is a hard heart that fails to be moved. It curiously became something of a sleeper hit on the video shelves and appeared high up a national viewers' top ten in 2001. In retrospect it did more for Freeman's career than it did for Robbins's, and Darabont did the whole thing again with The Green Mile.
