The Sugarland Express (1974)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 110m
Director: Steven Spielberg
Cast: Goldie Hawn, Ben Johnson, Michael Sacks

Synopsis:

A convict's wife breaks him out of prison and together they take possession of their child, leading to a police pursuit of ever-mounting stakes.

Review:

None of the excesses of Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, or the self-awareness of Bonnie and Clyde, mark out Spielberg's first theatrical feature, but a realistic story of two simple folk and one policeman, with a sympathetic sheriff figure looking on. The streams of police cars remind one of another, far more indulgent, movie brat flick that would close the decade, but for the moment this was very much of the hayseed/road movie cast, with brilliant camerawork and editing you would expect of the director.
