The Spirit of St Louis (1957)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 135m
Director: Billy Wilder
Cast: James Stewart, Murray Hamilton, Marc Connelly
Synopsis:
The story of the first non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic.
Review:
Billy Wilder's handsome production, in 4-track stereo no less, is something of a hagiography of Charles Lindbergh (everyone's mind no doubt also on the tragic kidnapping case to come). Stewart is the ideal actor, therefore, given that a largish section of the film has him alone, talking to himself (and a fly) in his cockpit, and he had already played a noted G-Man and Glenn Miller.
