(Hable con ella)

Country: SP
Technical: col 113m
Director: Pedro Almodóvar
Cast: Javier Cámara, Dario Grandinetti, Leonor Watling, Rosario Flores

Synopsis:

Two men are in love with women who happen to be in long-term comas. Their lives intertwine for one, a male nurse, works at the clinic where the patients are kept. He advocates one-way conversation as the best chance of a cure, but events take an unexpected turn.

Review:

Plotted in typically baroque manner this is Almodóvar's best yet, combining simplicity and directness with an ethically challenging scenario and other customary ingredients such as sexual ambivalence. Where All About my Mother was a hymn to the female, this is very much a movie about the men, though they are as sensitive as one would expect. The director has honed the dexterity with which he marshals these elements to such a degree now, that watching is a pleasure that amounts to pure cinema without ever giving the feeling of being manipulated.
