Terminator Genisys (2015)
Country: US/CAN
Technical: col/2.35:1 126m
Director: Alan Taylor
Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons
Synopsis:
The battle between the rebels and Skynet in the future has turned in mankind's favour. However, John Connor fails to stop the computers sending a cyborg into the past to kill his mother. He sends his lieutenant in pursuit but is subsumed by A.I. technology at the same time. The stage is set for a replay of The Terminator (1984), but there is a divergence in space-time which has produced a different set of outcomes for Sarah Connor, and for Judgement Day.
Review:
Although it perhaps takes one step too far in deploying time travel conundrums impossible to unravel, this final (we hope) chapter in the Terminator franchise gives us a new Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese and John Connor (as in characters, not just actors) and a full spectrum of T-units, which have been surprisingly easier to dispose of despite the fact that we still seem to be using bullets and automatic weapons. What saves it amid all the mayhem, arrests and escapes, is the vein of humour Arnie brings to it, together with the pathos Clarke shows towards her 'Guardian'.
