The Ten Commandments (1956)
Country: US
Technical: col/Vistavision 219m
Director: Cecil B. De Mille
Cast: Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Edward G. Robinson, Anne Baxter
Synopsis:
Moses leads the Israelites out of bondage in Egypt to the Promised Land.
Review:
A portentous showpiece of a film which is constantly saved from its stiltedness and verbosity by its pictorial splendour. The characterization of God is so totalitarian as to be indistinguishable from that of Pharoah ('So let it be written, so let it be done!') and De Mille's personal introduction seems to equate the story with the realization of the American Dream.
