The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 (1986)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 95m
Director: Tobe Hooper
Cast: Dennis Hopper, Caroline Williams, Bill Johnson

Synopsis:

An avenger purchases chainsaws and goes in search of the murderously dysfunctional family of the first film.

Review:

Hooper revisits old terrain and ups the ante in all departments, from production design (a backwoods shack has become a glittering, multi-layered complex) to characterisation (Hopper doing what became is principal rent-paying schtick in the latter phase of his career); from the gore effects to the scenario, which introduces a new member of the family out of nowhere (yes, Grandma), resurrects another and sentimentalises Leatherface. Nevertheless, if it is an assault on the nerves you are after, this does a pretty good job in its harrowing climax and besides can boast a very black sense of humour, turning a 'fait divers' into a critique of American society and the most outré example of the family unit under scrutiny that American Gothic has ever provided.
