The Teahouse of the August Moon (1956)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 123m
Director: Daniel Mann
Cast: Marlon Brando, Glenn Ford, Eddie Albert, Machiko Kyô
Synopsis:
An American Captain tasked with reconstruction in Okinawa after the war is taken aback when the locals reject official suggestions of schoolbuilding in favour of a teahouse.
Review:
Amiable stage to screen transfer, as its confined setting and leisurely pace bear witness, with good comic performances and a gorgeous Machiko Kyo. Indeed, as one might expect, the natives often steal the show, notwithstanding Brando's efforts at camouflage.
