Country: GB
Technical: bw 134m
Director: Lindsay Anderson
Cast: Richard Harris, Rachel Roberts, Alan Badel, Colin Blakely

Synopsis:

A rough diamond employee in a northern English town becomes a local sensation on account of his brutal and determined performances on the rugby league field. Dimly aware of the emptiness of his nihilistic rage, he pursues a relationship with his widowed landlady, but is unable to let her reach him.

Review:

Anderson's best film is a tough and unsympathetic portrait of working class angst whose subject has just about enough self-knowledge to realize what is happening to him to make his predicament tragic. Harris had very much arrived.
