Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines (1965)
(...or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 Hours 11 Minutes)
Country: GB
Technical: col/scope 138m
Director: Ken Annakin
Cast: Sarah Miles, Stuart Whitman, Robert Morley, Eric Sykes, James Fox, Alberto Sordi, Gert Fröbe, Jean-Pierre Cassel, Terry-Thomas
Synopsis:
A cross-Channel air race promoted by a patriotic London publisher is beset by national rivalries, Anglo-American competition for his daughter's favours, and cheating.
Review:
Made with Twentieth Century Fox money, this was one of those all-star tentpole (or roadshow, as they called them then) productions, consequently padded out to incoherence. This was better than most, thanks to the quantity of British acting talent involved, some superb flying stunts and that good old Ron Goodwin soundtrack.
