Three Came Home (1950)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 106m
Director: Jean Negulesco
Cast: Claudette Colbert, Patric Knowles, Florence Desmond, Sessue Hayakawa

Synopsis:

The memoirs of the British wife of an American official serving in Borneo, and how they were separated by the Japanese and kept in prison camps for the duration of WW2.

Review:

Typically 'serious' Fox drama along the lines of A Town Called Alice, adapted and produced by Nunnally Johnson. Most of it is pretty good, with quite frank portrayals of Japanese brutality, including attempted rape, along with the occasional kindness. Colbert gets beaten about a bit, but still looks glamorous, and her wardrobe lasts pretty well, while others of the women detainees look more suitably Tenko-like. Good to see Hayakawa in his third Hollywood career, trying out his Colonel Saito role, though the husband/wife/child stuff gets soppy, and the title is some spoiler!
