To Sir, with Love (1967)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col 105m
Director: James Clavell
Cast: Sidney Poitier, Christian Roberts, Judy Geeson

Synopsis:

A graduate engineer takes a job teaching undisciplined East End kids while waiting for a career opening to come through. It's tough but by encouraging them to respect each other he finally wins them over.

Review:

Difficult not to warm this feelgood movie when Poitier is the teach', especially as it has dated so deliciously: the kids look anything but rambunctious now - and of course are too old - not to mention the way the crush is handled. Essentially an updating of The Blackboard Jungle to London, with the star on the other side of the classroom, but highly successful commercially with its theme song and all. A busy year for Poitier: he went from this to In the Heat of the Night and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner!
