One of two zoological British films of the year (cf. A Zed and Two Noughts), less visual but also less self-consciously wordy. It is peopled with identifiable, humble characters struggling to make the best of things, and the appearance of producer and screenwriter in the cast gives the feel of a tightly knit unit at work on a cherished project.
