Chaplin continues to hone his schtick in this under-resourced two reeler, though the gags are strictly of the kick-in-the-pants variety (plus a nasty looking kick to the head) and everyone ends up in the lake. The protagonist here is still an intemperate opportunist - little of the gallantry that was to come but a year or two later.
