Where the Green Ants Dream (1984)
Country: GER
Technical: col 100m
Director: Werner Herzog
Cast: Bruce Spence, Wandjuk Marika, Roy Marika
Synopsis:
Australian aboriginals struggle against industrial exploitation of their sacred grounds.
Review:
An interesting landscape and a philosophy featured more compellingly in Walkabout and The Last Wave soon degenerate into tedium. Apart from a scene with a crazy entymologist, the green ant angle (an Aboriginal belief) is hardly examined, and the mixture of musical backing (diggery-dos and Fauré's Requiem) doesn't really work. Made at the same time as Paul Cox's Man of Flowers, and with some cross-collaboration, this labours its only point more than that film did.
