Les yeux sans visage (1960)
(Eyes without a Face)
Country: FR/IT
Technical: bw 90m
Director: Georges Franju
Cast: Pierre Brasseur, Alida Valli, Edith Scob, Juliette Mayniel
Synopsis:
After causing an accident which disfigures his daughter, a surgeon resorts to kidnapping young girls and attempting facial grafts to restore her beauty.
Review:
A hugely influential horror film, whose origins can of course be discerned in the Wax Museum films and vampirism. Franju invests it with an atmosphere of dread, helped by a highly effective use of the mask worn by the young Edith Scob, but the performances are stiff and the pace too slow not to notice.
