Yanks (1979)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col 141m
Director: John Schlesinger
Cast: Richard Gere, Vanessa Redgrave, William Devane

Synopsis:

Americans arrive in Lancashire in the run-up to D-Day, and the soldiers mesh with the locals.

Review:

Rather uneventful for its length, Schlesinger's film focuses instead on providing a truthful picture of a time, with all its attendant culture clashes and moral conflicts, in a regional context. The performances are fine, but the standout moment is when a publican, awoken by G.I.s demanding a glass of 'half and half', empties the contents of his chamber pot over their heads with the retort: 'There yer are, lads. 'Alf's mine and 'alf's me wife's!'
